He was born in 1923 in Los Angeles and was incredibly close to his father who became one of the very first African American physicians whose patients included renowned Jazz musicians Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington. From a young age, Dexter Gordon quickly displayed musical talent and learnt the clarinet at 15 and then the saxophone at 17, an instrument that would later make him a legend.
Throughout his long and incredible career, Dexter Gordon recorded and performed with many iconic musicians and became himself an inspiration to those alike.
