There is not many who would argue the power of Apple when discussing industry leaders in smartphone technology. The tech giants have been at the forefront of mobile phone manufacturing for over ten years now, earning them a loyal following of fans across the world.
Apple is often known for being the first smartphone brand to release the larger ‘phablet’ style phones thanks to the evolution of the iPhone Plus handsets, and for a long time now people have desired larger handsets with an ‘all screen’ design. However, there are still a few of us out there who want a great quality, high-end smartphone with a more practical, compact size.
Thankfully for those of you who identify with this feeling, there is the highly praised Apple iPhone SE.
Apple iPhone SE Build & Design
Great things really do come in small packages, and the iPhone SE is the perfect example of that. While it looks remarkably like the iPhone 5S, so much so that upon its release many customers were confused about exactly what was so special about this new iPhone, it holds a lot more power than the previous 4-inch model.
Some may think that by sticking to an older design Apple is being a little lazy, but we feel that it is astonishing that this little phone can contain so much power. On top of that, the iPhone SE is still an extremely good looking and will be a winner with fans of the more traditional iPhone design. It comes in four different colourways to suit any individual, with a bead-blasted aluminium finish which makes for a sleek phone that stays true to iPhone is beloved design.
Aside from its looks, the iPhone SE features a compact build that fits comfortably in one hand for an extremely pleasant user experience.
With the iPhone SE, you do not need to worry about being too precious with your smartphone; it feels extremely robust while retaining a compact build that wo not weigh you down. With that being said, we’d always recommend investing in a screen protector and good quality case so that you wo not find yourself having to fork out for any repairs.
Apple iPhone SE Screen Quality
While the resolution of the SE is a step backwards from that found on the 6S and 6S Plus, to a 640x1136 resolution, it still keeps the Retina display that iPhone fans will expect, delivering a very similar experience when it comes to detail.
The 4-inch display also features LCD multi-touch IPS technology and is reinforced with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating for added durability.
The A9 chip (more on that later) means that users are met with console-level graphics to deliver a top class gaming experience when in use, so while the screen may not be the biggest if gaming is your thing you wo not be let down.
Apple iPhone SE Sound Quality
The sound quality on the iPhone SE is decent, but we have to admit that the iPhone 6S is better, so if you are a keen music fan who finds themselves really looking out for a good audio experience, we’d recommend going for one of the larger handsets.
With that being said, the iPhone SE gives a sound quality that is crisp, rich and well timed, and if all that sounds like what you are looking for, then we would not let this be a factor that puts you off purchasing the iPhone SE.
Apple iPhone SE Features
Like many of the newer Apple handsets, the iPhone SE comes with an impressive 12MP camera, which is amazing when you consider the size and price of this handset.
The SE is capable of taking photographs that are comparable not only to the iPhone 6S but also to many high-end handsets released around the same time, particularly 4-inch handsets.
There is also the added bonus of Live Photos which come to life when you touch the screen and is a really innovative way to relive the moment in which the photo was captured.
There is good news for all those self-confessed selfie addicts out there; selfies are also of a great quality with a front-facing HD camera with Retina Flash, delivering photos that triple in brightness when compared to older models.
True-Tone technology allows users to experience true-to-life colours and natural looking skin tones that react according to different lighting conditions, and 4K video capability is another unexpected bonus.
Apple iPhone SE Performance
Apple claims that the iPhone SE is the most powerful 4-inch phone ever created, and when you consider that it has all the power of the larger 6S and 6S Plus models, we ca not argue.
This great little phone runs on Apple is very own A9 chip, meaning that the compact little body delivers an exceptional level of smartphone power, resulting in an incredibly fast and responsive smartphone experience that wo not have you waiting for your phone to catch up.
The SE comes with 16, 32, 64 or 128GB of internal memory, so you can choose your handset and make sure that you have plenty of storage space for all of your favourite apps, photos and files.
One significant upgrade from the 6S models is the improved battery life, largely thanks to the smaller screen, and users will find that the SE holds power for much longer than the 6S models.
Fonehouse iPhone SE Opinion
Even though there are newer iPhone handsets currently on the market, the iPhone SE remains a fantastic choice, especially if you are looking for a smaller, more affordable option.
The display remains similar to the iPhone 5S but we still really like it, and the colour options are diverse and give a lot of variety for different individuals.
The screen quality takes a step back from the 6S range, but it is still of an exceptionally high standard for a phone of this size and price.
The audio experience is not necessarily the best on the market, but do not let it put you off as its still decent and many people wo not notice the downgrade from the 6S.
The A9 chip does a fantastic job of providing this little handset with a tonne of power, and users will be grateful for such a responsive smartphone experience in a 4-inch handset.

"Apple iPhone SE

"Apple iPhone 7 Plus
When you think of smartphone giants we can guess one of the first names that will pop into your head: Apple. The technology pioneers have been leading the market with a variety of products for years now, producing iconic pieces of tech that will go down in history. Perhaps none so much as the iPhone.
The iPhone 7 Plus was released in 2016 along with its smaller counterpart. The mobile phone industry always gets excited about a new iPhone release and this was no exception.
Even though the iPhone 7 Plus has now been surpassed by the 8 Plus and the iPhone X, it is still a reputable smartphone and should not be overlooked if you are on the hunt for a new handset.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus Build and Design
When you first take the iPhone 7 Plus out of its box you’ll immediately notice that it is remarkably similar to the 6 Plus and 6S Plus models.
It features the classic design of the iPhone Plus, with sleek rounded corners and the thin body that remains surprisingly light. We are aware that some critics feel that it is time for Apple to shake things up when it comes to the iPhone design, but we are big fans and we always say that if something works, why change it. You find the same with the likes of Samsung and Sony - customers love the design, so they do not want to make dramatic changes to scare people away.
There are some minor changes on the iPhone 7; the missing headphone jack was a big modification that had a lot of tongues wagging, the camera bulge is more prominent to accommodate larger camera sensors, and the home button has been replaced with a pressure sensitive touchpad.
The only downside is that this is a very big phone. We often find this with iPhone Plus handsets, and if you are thinking of going for the larger model, you better forget about using the phone with one hand; those days are long gone.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus Screen Quality
The iPhone 7 Plus features a display that has some outstanding features, making it one of the top displays of any smartphone released in 2017.
Even though the screen resolution is identical to that of the previous 6 Plus and 6S Plus, it is still impressive.
There are a few small upgrades. The 7 Plus is 25percent brighter than the 6S Plus, and supports a wider colour gamut that results in richer, more vivid colours that still manage to look natural.
Contrast comes through strong and details are sharp, meaning that your viewing experience on the iPhone 7 Plus will be nothing short of perfection.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus Sound Quality
The iPhone 7 Plus sounds great and it really feels like Apple have perfected the audio quality of the iPhone with this model, despite the lack of support for high-resolution music.
The timing of the audio is impeccable and the iPhone 7 Plus manages to deal with fast, punchy sounds and mellow tracks with equal ability; sound come through rich and as dynamic as possible.
When talking about the sound quality of the iPhone 7 Plus there is one element that we really cannot ignore - that missing headphone jack.
It was an unexpected move when Apple first announced that the newer models would come without this standard design feature, and many viewed it as an unnecessary risk. The missing jack means that in order to listen to your iPhone 7 through headphones, you have the option of using wireless headphones, Lightning earpods, or through the headphone adapter.
The headphone adapter is ok, but it is rather small and unassuming (and some may find it a bit of a faff) so we can envisage it getting lost or misplaced. We also found it a little annoying that you ca not listen to your music while charging your phone when using the adapter, as it uses the charging port.
On the other hand, many manufacturers are now moving toward wireless audio, so perhaps Apple was right all along, and the iPhone 7 was just the first of many smartphones to be released with the absence of a headphone jack.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus Features
After ten years of iPhone releases, Apple is now pretty well known for developing impressive camera setups that deliver near professional quality shots.
The camera of the smaller iPhone 7 is already rather spectacular, but the iPhone 7 Plus goes even further.
Like the smaller phone, the iPhone 7 Plus also comes with a 12MP camera on the rear, but with the added benefit of dual sensors, which allows an increased zoom to capture finer details by bringing your focus twice as close. This telephoto lens performs best in well-lit conditions and will allow you to really impress your friends and family with photography skills.
A lot of smartphones these days come with a Portrait Mode to utilise with their photography, but no one nails this feature as effectively as Apple.
Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 delivers stunning portraits with soft backgrounds. Bear in mind that this feature is only available on the larger 7 Plus model, so if portrait photography is your thing, it is worth going for the more expensive handset.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus Performance
The battery life of an iPhone is often a point of contention for iPhone users and critics. However, we have to say that on the iPhone 7 Plus this is one area that is outstanding. Where the iPhone 7 falters a little - nothing dramatic, you will just find that you start to run low towards the end of the day - the 7 Plus triumphs and users wo not be disappointed when it comes to checking their power percentage on the commute home.
The iPhone 7 Plus runs on the highly praised Apple built A10 Fusion 64-bit system-on-chip. This impressive little chip features two low-power cores and two high-power cores, with the phone only ever using two cores at any one time. The purpose of this fusion system is to help retain battery life, and with a battery as impressive as the iPhone 7 Plus, it clearly does its job.
We really ca not fault the iPhone 7 Plus performance with the A10 chip; it delivers a speedy smartphone experience (40percent faster than the 6S Plus) and powers a responsive interface with little delay when carrying out multiple tasks at the same time.
Like its smaller counterpart, the iPhone 7 Plus will arrive with iOS 10.0 but is, of course, upgradeable to the recent versions. Anyone who is familiar with the iPhone interface will find it a joy to use and even those who may be first time iPhone users will quickly become experts.
Fonehouse is iPhone 7 Plus Opinion
There is no doubt that iPhone 7 Plus is still one of the very best smartphones available on the market, and if you have the budget, we’d always recommend taking it into consideration when shopping for a new handset.
In terms of design, it may feel a little repetitive next to previous models, but we think its a classic, and it comes in five great colourways to suit any individual (Jet Black, Matte Black, Silver, Rose Gold and Gold).
Of all phones released at the same time the display on the 7 Plus is second to none and viewing content and watching videos is a pleasure.
Despite the missing headphone jack and lack of support for high-resolution music, the sound quality is still great and users wo not be disappointed.
The camera is also fantastic; the dual sensors work well and in particular, we loved experimenting with Portrait Mode.

"Apple iPhone 6
Despite the fact that the iPhone 6 was released in late 2014, it is still one of the most popular handsets available even today.
As one of the most celebrated mobile phone manufacturers of all time, Apple consistently release stand out iPhone handsets that have built them a cult following of loyal customers, willing to purchase the iPhone time and time again.
The iPhone 6 was the first smartphone of its kind with the larger screen and since its release, Apple have stayed true to a tried and trusted design that still stands strong today. At Fonehouse we are still huge fans of the iPhone 6 and believe that it definitely should not be overlooked by those on the hunt for a new smartphone.
Apple iPhone 6 Build and Design
When the iPhone 6 was first released, smartphone consumers were used to seeing phones that were attempting to be as small and compact as possible, so when the new iPhone came along, with the larger screen and thinner body, it really was the first of its kind.
The iPhone 6 is just 6.9 millimetres thin and has a 4.7inch screen to make for a handset that is sleek and sophisticated, as well as light. Despite the larger screen, the iPhone 6 still feels compact and is easy to carry around all day.
Unlike its predecessors, the build of the iPhone 6 has been optimised to make using the handset as comfortable and as convenient as possible. The power button is situated on the side of the phone, and the home button acts as a fingerprint sensor - something that was relatively new upon its initial release, and means that your smartphone security wo not be of any concern.
The expert craftsmanship of the iPhone 6 has resulted in a phone that is bigger and better than its predecessors in every way. Available in three different colour options (space grey, silver and gold), there is an iPhone 6 to suit each and every individual's style.
In terms of durability and protection, the iPhone 6 features Ion-strengthened glass and oleo phobic coating, meaning that this is not the most protected smartphone when compared with more recent releases, but the addition of a protective case should see you through to your next smartphone.
If anyone ever doubted the new design of the iPhone 6 they have since been proved wrong; the design that we see on the build of the iPhone 6 now acts as pretty much standard and is clearly recognisable in each and every iPhone release since (with the exception of the iPhone SE).
Apple iPhone 6 Screen Quality
The iPhone 6 features the aforementioned 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels, or a 16:9 ratio.
It is certainly not the most impressive screen quality on the market, and this is perhaps where it becomes increasingly evident that the iPhone 6 is an older model. Nowadays you can easily get your hands on what may be considered a budget handset with a significantly better screen quality.
With that being said, the colours displayed on the iPhone 6 are still extremely vivid and details come out crisp and clear, so while you might assume that the display lets the handset down when you read the specs, it is certainly not a factor that should deter users from buying the iPhone 6.
We really should not criticise the screen too much as Apple have chosen to stick with this particular screen resolution right up to the iPhone 8, so it is clearly a winning formula.
iPhone 6 Sound Quality
The iPhone 6 continues the traditional great quality sound that we are used to with iPhones.
While a lack of hi-res audio support may disappoint some users, it is not too noticeable when the CD-quality 44.1kHz sound is so impressive.
Overall the sound is clear, crisp and rich, and upon release made the iPhone 6 stand out as one of 2014 is best sounding smartphones. That is not to say it wo not still impress users four years later; you’ll be more than happy listening to Apple Music on your commute or atthe gym, and watching your favourite films and TV shows is a pleasure.
iPhone 6 Features
The new design of the iPhone 6 was not the only major improvement that Apple made with this handset. They also stepped up their game when it came to the key features and the internal workings of the phone.
Possibly one of the most talked about new additions to this phone was the introduction of Apple Pay, a service that allows iPhone users to use their handsets to conveniently make card payments in participating stores. As such a new feature back in 2014, it was initially a somewhat redundant as not many stores were immediately participating in Apple Pay, but nowadays it is a great feature that makes day to day life a lot easier- particularly if you find yourself stuck without cash when you are out and about.
Some users were concerned about using Apple Pay and how secure it could be, but the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 6 performs well and users really need not be concerned about issues with keeping their details secure.
The iPhone 6 features a good quality 8MP rear camera with increased Focus Pixels when compared to its predecessors, for quick focus time. In comparison to older iPhones, there is a notable improvement in photo quality; the iPhone 6 photos feature less blurring and camera performance is significantly better in low light.
In comparison to other front shooters on more recent smartphone releases, the 1.2MP front-facing camera wo not blow you away, however, we are used to the low-resolution front cameras that have become a standard feature on Apple handsets, and after a while, you learn to live with it. In all honesty, we feel that the other features of the iPhone 6 override a poor selfie camera, and it would not put us off purchasing the iPhone 6.
iPhone 6 Performance
The iPhone 6 was released with the iOS 8 interface but is now upgradeable to more current versions. If you are a die-hard Apple fan then you’ll be used to using the classic iPhone interface;it is extremely responsive and you can to choose to increase the size of everything which is a great feature for older users.
Apple are known for their impressive processors and the iPhone 6 unsurprisingly runs on the Apple A8 chip. When compared to previous models iPhone 6 delivers a 25percent increase in CPU performance, a 50percent increase in graphics performance and noticeably less heat output.
Fonehouse is iPhone 6 Opinion
The iPhone 6 will always standout as the Apple release to feature the most significant changes in design, build and performance and for that reason will always be a firm favourite at Fonehouse.
While improvements have been made since the release in 2014, many of the brilliant, innovative features of the iPhone 6 are still featured in each and every iPhone release since.
The iPhone 6 features a beautiful design with a build that is surprisingly light despite the larger screen size and is an ideal option for personal or professional use thanks to the impressive performance and powerful processor.
We would have liked to have seen an improved camera performance, particularly from the front shooter, as the iPhone 6 can seem somewhat dated when compared to the camera capabilities of recently released budget handsets, but if you are looking for an iPhone in particular, we would not recommend buying a more expensive, recent release just because of the camera.

"Apple iPhone 6S
There is not many who would argue the power of Apple when discussing industry leaders in smartphone technology. The tech giants have been at the forefront of mobile phone manufacturing for over ten years now, earning them a loyal following of fans across the world.
The iPhone 6 was the first iPhone, and indeed smartphone, to feature a much larger screen and for that reason became a revolutionary iPhone handset that paved the way for those that followed.
The iPhone 6S which succeeded the 6 took things a little further by featuring much more powerful internal hardware to make for a smartphone that not only impressed loyal iPhone fans but also experts and critics alike, so much so that it won a barrage of tech awards in 2015.
Even though the iPhone 6S is now almost three years old, it is still a fantastic choice when you are on the hunt for a new smartphone, particularly if you get your eye on an Apple handset.
Apple iPhone 6S Build & Design
We’ve already mentioned the larger screen and thin body of the iPhone 6, and the design of the iPhone 6S pretty much mirrors that of the 6, featuring a 4.7inch screen and an aluminium frame which measures at just 7.1mm thick, making for a handset that is larger, but still compact and incredibly light.
Coming equipped with ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating, the iPhone 6S comes in four stunning colourways. So whether you choose Space Grey, Silver, Gold or Rose Gold, there really is an iPhone 6S to suit any individual is style.
The added protection does add to the durability of the handset, but if you are a die-hard iPhone fan then you’ll know the heartbreak that strikes when you accidentally smash or crack your iPhone screen, so we’d highly recommend investing in a screen protector and a good quality screen.
Apple iPhone 6S Screen Quality
The screen quality of the 6S does not differ from previous iPhone handsets, but colours and detail still come across at a really high standard, with natural hues and a balanced contrast.
The A9 processor, which we’ll go into in more detail shortly, delivers great quality graphics to deliver a top class experience for gaming fans, and really proves that the iPhone 6S can hold its own when it comes to testing screen quality against other high-end rivals.
Apple iPhone 6S Sound Quality
Upon its release, the audio experience on the iPhone 6S was the best you could get, and it still sounds fantastic when put against more recently released handsets.
The timing is great and all instruments are handled well, with a rich, dynamic sound quality that sounds crisp and fresh.
For all the traditionalists out there you’ll be grateful that, due its age, the 6S features an up to date audio experience while still retaining the headphone jack that is sometimes missed when it comes to more recent iPhone handsets.
Apple iPhone 6S Features
The iPhone 6S comes equipped with a brilliant 12MP rear camera, which was a significant upgrade from the iPhone 6.
The rear camera delivers a noticeable improvement in the quality of photos taken on the 6S models, with much brighter colours and details that come across with much more detail.
Another much-appreciated upgrade can be found with the front shooter which jumps from a 1.2MP to a 5MP setup, meaning that your selfies come out at a much higher standard so you’ll waste no time uploading them to social media and find those likes rolling in.
Of course, you also have your trusty personal assistant, Siri, on hand to help you out when you are in the car or on the go. While other manufacturers have tried to catch up we have to admit that Siri is probably our favourite AI feature of any smartphone.
You have the choice of 16, 32, 64 or 128GB of internal storage, with 2GB of RAM so you can always make sure that you have enough space for all of your essential apps, your favourite photos and your most important files.
Apple iPhone 6S Performance
The iPhone 6S runs on Apple is celebrated A9 chip, which delivers a fantastic smartphone experience which we have found to be fast and ultra responsive.
You’ll find using the internet, playing games, and running multiple apps a much quicker task; gone are the days of waiting for your iPhone to play catch up while you're using it.
The battery life of the iPhone 6S could be better - you may find yourself running low before the end of the day so we’d suggest carrying around a handy little portable charger for any emergency top-ups.
Fonehouse iPhone 6S Opinion
Despite the fact that the iPhone 6S was released almost three years ago (we ca not believe it either), it still stands up as a fantastic smartphone and is ideal if you are desperate for an iPhone but need a more affordable option.
It features the stunning design that we’ve come to know and love from Apple and comes in four desirable colour options to suit each and every Apple fan.
The screen quality delivers an extremely high standard of graphics, and users will be more than satisfied with the visual experience on the iPhone 6S. Furthermore, the sound quality delivers a fantastic audio experience that is rich and well balanced.
The camera setups featured much-needed upgrades on both the rear and front setups, and anyone who has owned an older iPhone will notice the better quality of both photographs and selfies.
The A9 chip delivers an ultra-responsive iPhone experience and we found little to no delay when using a range of apps and features on the 6S.
Our only worry with the iPhone 6S is the battery life; with moderate use, it doesn't start to drain before the end of the day so if you are going for the 6S we would say that a portable charger is a must-have.
