On arrival at the ArcelorMittal Orbit you’ll meet up with the Wire & Sky team before going through a safety brief, kitting up in your equipment and jumping in the lift to shoot up to the top of the sculpture. You’ll have a bit of time to take in the sights before making your way out onto the airy abseiling platform, where the team will go through the final safety checks ahead of attaching you to the abseiling systems. You’ll be taught everything you need to know to abseil safely and in a controlled manner – so all you’ll need to do then is take the leap. Participant guidelines Minimum age: 14 (Under 18s require parental consent) One adult can supervise a maximum of 5 under 18s Minimum height: 3ft 11in (1.2 metres) Maximum weight: 19 stone (120kg) Maximum waist circumference: 51in (130cm) Participants must be physically fit (if in doubt they must consult with a medical practitioner beforehand) and have a good degree of physical strength Spectators will need to buy entry to the ArcelorMittal Orbit if they wish to view the abseil from the upper floors Please note: anyone deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to participate The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary Availability This experience will be available from Friday to Sunday,10.00 to 18.00 from March to October inclusive. Groups of 5 depart every 30 minutes. We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure a date is available. All bookings are subject to availability. Please allow up to 2 hours for the full experience (10 to 15 minutes abseiling time). What should I wear? You are advised to wear comfortable clothing covering upper legs, arms and midriff and shoes that are secure (no heels or open toes). Long hair must be securely tied back. You will not be able to participate in loose clothing such as skirts, dresses, long cardigans that may get caught in the abseil devices. What about the weather? Please be warned that the abseil is extremely wind sensitive and your experience may have to be cancelled in the event of high winds, persistent rain, lightening, snow, hail or ice or any other conditions that are deemed to render the abseil unsafe. The weather is constantly monitored and the experience provider will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible if your abseil will be affected by bad weather. In the event of a cancellation you will be offered an alternative date. What about insurance? The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence. A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher. Wild Wookey will provide each participant with an over-suit and all of the specialist equipment needed for your journey through the caves. You must however, bring an under layer of clothing. This should be clothing that allows you to move freely and also, something which you do not mind getting slightly muddy, damp or dusty. The recommendation is tracksuit style or fleece material clothing; long-sleeved tops and leggings are best. Please avoid wearing jeans; as they become very heavy when wet, shorts; as they do not provide adequate protection and do not wear anything too warm, as you will be continuously moving. You must bring your own footwear for Wild Wookey. Wellington Boots are standard caving footwear and it's highly recommend bringing or buying a pair for the Wild Wookey experience. Alternatively, walking boots are fine but please ensure your footwear fits well, has good grip and will stay on your feet during all of the weird and wonderful positions you will find yourself in! Wear any other form of footwear and you may find yourself excluded from the session. What about the weather? This experience is not subject to weather conditions. The caves are a constant 11 degrees underground all year around and are therefore unaffected by seasonal change. In extreme circumstances, the caves have been known to flood.
