Some of our featured villages vanished because of economic reasons, as foreign competition undercut their markets; others, such as Imber on Salisbury Plain and Tyneham in Dorset, were requisitioned by the military. We also visit villages that were flooded to form reservoirs, so that water could be supplied to the large conurbations of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The film also includes the strange tale of Penybanc in South Wales, which was the victim of subsidence caused by mining.
