"Vanishing of Pato"
"If you think Detective Montalbano's hometown of Vigata can get a little nutty sometimes, you should see it in 1890! Based on the historical mystery novel by Andrea Camilleri, the Vanishing of Pat is set in the same seaside town that Detective Montalbano fans know and love. It's a story of the desperate search for one of Vigata's most upstanding citizens - a man who vanishes right after his appearance in the annual Passion Play. South collides with North as a local Sicilian carabiniere teams up with a Neapolitan police officer to unlock the mystery of his disappearance. Despite their cultural, linguistic and personal differences the two men have enough in common to forge an alliance which is as comic as it is productive. Together, they wade through local politics, personal agendas and the general wackiness that is Vigata to find out what really happened to the banker and father of two who mysteriously disappeared. And perhaps most surprising of all, the policeman and the carabiniere find that they can trust each other more than they can trust anyone else in Vigata. Detective Montalbano fans will recognize it all: Sicilian characters, Italian culture at it's highest (and lowest) and the breathtaking countryside of southern Italy."

Siberiade
"Spanning more than six decades of Russian history encompassing the Bolshevik Revolution, Siberiade is Andrei Konchalovsky's (Runaway Train) passionate and ambitious examination of the Soviet spirit, as represented in two families of opposing ideologies: The proletariat Ustyuzhanins and the wealthy Solomins. Through their multi-generational conflicts and alliances, Konchalovsky dramatizes the evolution of the Russian people, bound together by the common struggle for survival and faithfulness to the motherland. Yet Siberiade is more than an immense historical epic. It is a hauntingly beautiful spectacle reminiscent of the finest woks of visionary filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky (whose Andrei Roublev was co-written by Konchalovsky). Though cinematographer Levan Paatashvili's lens, the Siberian wilderness becomes a mesmerizing universe unto itself, whose forests and swamps are populated by near-mythical characters. Tied to ancient tradition, these spirits seek to protect the countryside from the ravaging forces of time and technology. When a rural village is invaded by an oil-drilling crew that encroaches upon their hallowed burial grounds, generating conflict between ancestral reverence for the earth and government-ordained industrialization. Siberiade comes to an explosive and unforgettable climax."

"Writer-director Blayne Weaver stars as Tyler, a womanizing single man who lives by a philosophy that allows him to avoid making any significant connections with the women he encounters. Boasting that he never stays in a relationship for more than 6 months, his bravado in fact masks a fear of emotional attachment. His best friend Alan (Martin Starr, Freaks & Geeks, Adventure land) has just become his main project, as Tyler tries to teach his buddy all about the joys of cold-hearted bachelorhood. But when he keeps bumping into an alluringly fascinating woman (Natalie Morales), he discovers that no philosophy is set in stone.
