"Aldwych Farces Vol. 1 (DVD)"
"A series of now-legendary stage comedies from the 1920s and '30s, the Aldwych Farces broke theatre box-office records and made the transition to celluloid with a run of hit films making stars of Tom Walls, Ralph Lynn and Robertson Hare. Most were penned by leading comic playwright Ben Travers and peopled by a regular cast of silly-ass aristocrats, battleaxe wives and put-upon husbands; nimble wordplay and finely crafted buffoonery were their hallmarks and the public loved them.Though only ten adaptations were made on film, the influence of these enduringly popular films was great and can be seen in some of the key British comedies from the first half of the 20th century. This ongoing range will include not only the Aldwych Farces themselves but those films that they influenced. They are presented here as brand-new transfers from original film elements in their original aspect ratio.A CUCKOO IN THE NEST (1933)A newlywed husband is compelled through circumstances to spend the night sharing a room with an also-married lady friend.Black and White / 83 mins / 1.33:1 / Mono / EnglishTURKEY TIME (1933)When two gentlemen try their best to be chivalrous, they find themselves caught on the sticky end of a series of unfortunate misunderstandings.Black and White / 69 mins / 1.33:1 / Mono / English Running Time: 152 minutes Region: Region 2 Release Date: 20/04/2015"

"Alec Guinness Collection (Screen Icons) (DVD)"
"Classic collection of the early films of Alec Guinness, including Kind Hearts and Coronets, Last Holiday, Man in the White Suit, Barnacle Bill and more! In the classic Ealing comedy, 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' (1949), young Louis Mazzini (Dennis Price) vows to take revenge on his family, the D'Ascoynes, when he learns how they disinherited his mother. Working his way into their trust, Louis begins to bump off his distant relatives (all played by Alec Guinness) one by one, but complications set in when Edith D'Ascoyne (Valerie Hobson), the widow of his first victim, falls in love with him. In 'Last Holiday' (1950), Guiness plays an agricultural salesman who finds out he has a short time to live. Taking a final holiday, he realises that he was actually a more interesting person than he allowed himself to be. In 'the Man In The White Suit' (1951), eccentric Sidney Stratton (Alec Guiness) is a laboratory cleaner in a textile factory, who invents a material that will neither wear out nor become dirty. Initially hailed as a great discovery, Sidney's astonishing invention is suffocated by the management when they realise that if it never wears out, people will only ever have to purchase one suit of clothing. In 'the Captain's Paradise' (1953), Guinness stars as Mediterranean ferryboat Captain Henry St. James, who believes in the notion of 'a girl in every port'. For Henry has a wife on both sides of the water. There is Maude (Celia Johnson) in Gibraltar and Nita (Yvonne DeCarlo) in Tangiers. Everything is perfect as long as neither woman decides to visit the other port. In 'Barnacle Bill' (1957), Guiness plays retired Navy Captain Ambrose, who buys a decrepit amusement pier in 'Sandcastle-On-Sea' planning to turn it into a going concern. But when the local council object to the idea, planning to close the pier down, Ambrose has to use some lateral thinking to save the day. Running Time: 438 Region: Region 2 Release Date: 1 Oct. 2007"

"Alice In Wonderland As Seen On BBC 1 (DVD)"
"Alice in Wonderland, is the haunting 1966 BBC Television version written and directed by Jonathan Miller, and starring Peter Sellers, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Michael Redgrave, Wilfrid Brambell, Peter Cook, Alan Bennett, John Bird, Leo McKern, and Anne-Marie Mallik as Alice. Jonathan Millers startingly imaginative masterpiece was shot in black and white, and captures the menacing atmosphere of Lewis Carroll s narrative with a dream-like editing schematic, actors dressed not in costumes but in period clothes, and a jarring, seductive, beautiful score by Ravi Shankar. This Alice in Wonderland is like no other version you ll see of the Lewis Carroll classic Review Almost every scene in Alice in Wonderland keeps us off our feet visually, aurally, logically, emotionally - just as we are in our own dreams - in a sustained effort by Miller that s remarkable. This isn t just the single most intriguing version of Alice in Wonderland I ve ever seen - it s one of the best English films from the 1960s --DVD Talk Running Time: 71 minutes Region: All Regions Release Date: 24 Nov. 2014"
