Onto these, Bryant has added anachronistic motifs to create a jarring and unexpected end result. ‘Cows’ depicts a seventeenth century, pastoral vista, as herdsmen gather amongst the cattle. A ‘warning: cows’ sign figures in the foreground, much to the relief of all the villagers: bovine mortality rates have decreased by 83% since its erection."
