"Blue Monday By Kerry Roper"
"London based artist Kerry Roper is known for his iconic woodcut prints. Having been included in a 2009-12 touring exhibition at the V&A, and his work used as the cover art for the accompanying book, Roper is held in high esteem in the world of contemporary street art. ‘Blue Monday’ depicts a simple interior set-up: a bare wooden floor and a roughly plastered wall act as the backdrop to a small table and two metal chairs, one black, the other sky blue. Above the table hangs a work of art, entirely comprised of words: ‘This colour &’, it reads, in a blue that matches the chair, ‘Monday’, in the complementary black. It takes a second to register, but Roper’s print is in fact a conceptual depiction of the 1980s band, Blue Monday. With its satirical jab at modern minimalism, ‘Blue Monday’ is a paragon of contemporary printmaking."

"(It's Not) The End By Magnus Gjoen"
"Former Vivienne Westwood designer, Magnus Gjoen knows a thing or two about style. Having recently turned his hand to the art of print making, Gjoen creates images that are full of startling beauty as well as a profundity of thought: his art explores the interaction between power and fragility, juxtaposing the two states for maximum conceptual effect. Set into a black frame, ’(It’s Not) The End’ depicts a barren, grey landscape, all dense clouds, leafless trees, and stagnant ponds, stretching back as far as the eye can see. Gjoen has glazed the image with a sheet of glass, onto which are printed the words ‘The End’, in filmic, 1930s script. For his finishing tough, Gjoen has smashed the glazing panel, violently disrupting our expectations in this bold confrontation with the value of contemporary art."

"Golden Fleece By Belles Petite"
"Strange, surreal and esoteric: the work of contemporary artist Belles Petit vividly captures the realm of the dream, through complex multi-layered processes of illustration. Working at the intersection of the organic and the industrial, Belles Petit draws inspiration from the natural world, exploring the boundaries and contrasts between the human and the animal, the dream and the machine. ‘Golden Fleece’ depicts the skull of a ram, lightly dipped in gold. All around the creature’s remains, Belles Petite has collaged an assemblage of fragments: red poppies, horse’s heads, hand-written scraps, eagles, burning suns. With its beautifully vintage aesthetic, ‘Golden Fleece’ seems to tell a story in non-linear progression: an interlacing of imagery with bewitching, visual prowess."

"Pumpkin By Jane Burrows"
"Jane Burrows is a contemporary painter and print maker, living and working in Brighton. Her work is built around observational drawing, creating monotypes from small-scale graphite sketches. Life drawing is central to Burrows’s work, having herself been both muse and master in the life drawing studio and two recent series’ - ‘Body Parts’ and ‘Tops and Bottoms’ - revolve around the fragmented nude. By playing with perspective, her work merges the abstract with the figurative, placing gender at its core to quietly question cultural expectations of the female form. ‘Pumpkin’ recalls mid-century Abstract Expressionism, with its angular shapes and lines, and its bright, clashing colour palette. Yet, closer inspection reveals not an abstract depiction but a female figure, laying on her side, her knees drawn in towards her chest. Visually powerful and conceptually acute, ‘Pumpkin’ is a gem of contemporary print making."

"Thrills By Richard Heeps"
"Contemporary photographer Richard Heeps favours a traditional, analogue photographic process, eschewing the contemporary digitalisation of the image for a mesmerising and lasting aesthetic. In his work, vibrant colours mingle with ethereal qualities, symbols and motifs float across the surface of the image, while bold composition powerfully emphasises the subject. ‘Thrills’ depicts the signage of a ‘Wonder Wheel’ fairground ride, its red, neon lettering bold against a bright, blue sky, while the scaffolding on which it sits adds depth and detail. With its retro appeal and powerful minimalism, ’Thrills’ recalls 1950s photography with contemporary clarity."

"Badekultur (S) By Gina Soden"
"Gina Soden is a contemporary artist and photographer, whose work documents a reverie of architectural decay. Using the medium of the camera, Soden chart’s the slow and entropic passage of time, favouring a lyrical composition that breathes life back into the haunted spaces that time forgot. ’Badekultur’ - its title taken from the German for ‘bathing culture’ - depicts an abandoned swimming pool, the blue tiles of its waterless depths exposed, as paint peels from the avenue of once-brightly painted arches. Layers of history are made visible: the nineteenth century space recalls neo-classical styles, while looking fashionably forward in its deco tiling. Yet this is about more than architectural modes: Soden’s picture tells a story of human histories, suffused with the presence of all those whose absence is writ large on this decaying space. Profoundly beautiful, Soden’s haunting print speaks to our very human fascination with time, its passing, and all things ephemeral."

"No.14 By Newton Blades"
"Newton Blades is a contemporary artist, known for his ‘borrowed’ and ‘reimagined’ artworks. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Blades’ aesthetic is wide and varied, encompassing the old and the new through innovative interactions with found art. For ‘No. 14’, Blades has arranged a series of abstract colour blocks in bright shades. Onto a white background, peach is layered under cherry red, under sky blue, each shape haphazard and indistinguishable, roughly assembled for a dynamic composition. A triumph of colouring and contouring, ‘No. 14’ speaks to the great Abstract Expressionist works of the twentieth century."

"Les Histoires By Gina Soden"
"Gina Soden is a contemporary artist and photographer, whose work documents a reverie of architectural decay. Using the medium of the camera, Soden chart’s the slow and entropic passage of time, favouring a lyrical composition that breathes life back into the haunted spaces that time forgot. ’Les Histoires’ depicts an abandoned library, its books collapsing on once-decadent shelves of red, rococo design. Wooden panelling, herringbone floors, and paintings in gilded frames have all assumed a thick layer of dust, while sections of the rooms facade give way to reveal the brick and wood skeleton beneath.

"Gina Soden is a contemporary artist and photographer, whose work documents a reverie of architectural decay. Using the medium of the camera, Soden chart’s the slow and entropic passage of time, favouring a lyrical composition that breathes life back into the haunted spaces that time forgot. ’Rosetta’ depicts the long, colonnaded walkway, of a grand, mediterranean house. Once, its terracotta and travertine tiles provided the backdrop to lively encounters; now swinging doors and and a dust-covered ground house only ghosts and forgotten memories of times long past. Though empty, Soden breathes life into the space, igniting it with the trace of now-absent figures. Profoundly beautiful, Soden’s haunting print speaks to our very human fascination with time, its passing, and all things ephemeral."

Working at the intersection of the organic and the industrial, Belles Petit draws inspiration from the natural world, exploring the boundaries and contrasts between the human and the animal, the dream and the machine. ‘Cry de Prey’ depicts the head of a crow, as it hovers against a golden moon. At the bird’s neck, Belles Petite has allowed drips of soft pigment to course down the print, creating rich texture and dynamism. With its beautifully vintage aesthetic, ‘Cry de Prey’ seems to tell a story in non-linear progression: an interlacing of imagery with bewitching, visual prowess."

"Hope That Kills You By Newton Blades"
"Newton Blades is a contemporary artist, known for his ‘borrowed’ and ‘reimagined’ artworks. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Blades’ aesthetic is wide and varied, encompassing the old and the new through innovative interactions with found art. ‘Hope That Kills You’ depicts four, blue swallows, simply illustrated in 1950s design, flying through their air, their beaks open as if in song. The titular words have been etched onto the birds - a single word printed across each back - creating effortless juxtaposition between the charming visual and the not-so-saccharine sentiment."

"Love & Cheri$h By Dollarsandart"
"Dollarsandart - the brain child of Dubai-based artist Jim Wheat - explores the significance of money in twenty-first century society, from both sides of the coin. His art explores the essential qualities of currency: that money makes the world go round, but that it can also act as a force for both good and evil. Depicting a large, red love-heart, a dollar sign at its centre, ’Love and Cheri$h’ collapses the line between amorous love and a desire for capital, exposing our unhealthy obsession with money and materialism. Printed using Ben-Day dots, ’Love and Cheri$h’ recalls Pop Art styles, beautifully reworked for the twenty-first century."

"Hand Grenade By Michael Craig-Martin"
"Contemporary artist Michael Craig-Martin is known for his hyper-real paintings and prints of everyday objects. Fusing boldly minimal compositions with highly saturated colour palettes, Craig-Martin’s artworks have become something of an icon, influencing a generation of twenty-first century Pop Artists. ‘Hand Grenade’ forms part of Craig-Martin’s collection, ‘Quotidian, 2017’, featuring eight laser-etched black acrylic panels depicting everyday - or quotidian - objects. The piece follows Craig-Martin’s typical pattern: the familiar item has been rendered in clean, sharp lines and composed in minimalist style. This time, though, Craig-Martin has stripped the image of any colour, leaving only the etched white lines against the black panel, like a photographic negative. Visually high-impact, ‘Corkscrew’ is a contemporary collector’s must have."

"The Planets 2017 By Michael Craig-Martin"
"Contemporary artist Michael Craig-Martin is known for his hyper-real paintings and prints of everyday objects. Fusing boldly minimal compositions with highly saturated colour palettes, Craig-Martin’s artworks have become something of an icon, influencing a generation of twenty-first century Pop Artists. On a black, letterbox-shaped board, ‘The Planets’ reimagines our solar system, swapping celestial bodes with sporting balls. A purple basket ball, a red pool ball, a pink bowling ball, are just a few of the objects that hang in Craig-Martin’s everyday version of incomprehensible space. Brilliantly visual, with a dash of art-wit, ‘The Planets’ is a gem of contemporary printmaking."

"The Maker By Elizabeth Waggett"
"Elizabeth Waggett is a British fine artist, whose ‘free-spirited’ work portrays animals, skulls, and personal trinkets to explore the relationship between value and purpose in consumer driven society. Each of her pieces stages a visual dichotomy between stripped-back monochrome and shimmering, gold leaf. Posing as photographic images, each piece reveals itself, on closer look, to be highly skilled, fine art works, crafted with traditional techniques but finished with a modern twist to confront contemporary culture and challenge the viewer’s assumptions. ‘The Maker’ depicts a human skull, rendered in Waggett’s characteristically detailed design. Against the black and white image, Waggett has overlaid dots of gold leaf, arranged in a grid to represent the unique pattern that each life follows."

Bringing their skilled backgrounds in graphic design and fine art to bear, Harper Deyong hand draw cut, precious stones, creating complex geometries, which transform the three-dimensional shape into a two-dimensional image with illusionistic qualities. ‘Forever’ depicts a large, heart-shaped diamond, each cut carefully detailed and dazzling to perfection. Every facet of this stunning stone has been hand-drawn with astonishing dexterity and precision, to resemble a high definition photograph. To finish the print, the single title word has been printed over the gemstone in thick, red lettering, to evoke the endurance and timelessness of the classic diamond."

"HardTimes #11 By Kenny Random"
"Kenny Random is a street artist, living and working in Padova, Italy. His work turns around the technique of trompe-l’oeil, spraying cartoon characters and silhouette figures onto walls with carefully crafted compositions to create the illusion of three dimensional reality. ‘Hard Times #11’ depicts an image of Snoopy, sleeping on the roof of his kennel. Over the iconic image, Kenny Random has added dynamic splashes of paint: a red, love-heart balloon, covered with medical plasters, raw, urban graffiti tags, and an onslaught of black pigment, rough and dripping for a brilliant sense of immediacy. Fusing Pop, Pulp, and Street, ‘Hard Times #11’ gathers some of the last half century’s most important visual movements, transforming them into a powerful, contemporary aesthetic."

"Castle Piano (S) By Gina Soden"
"Gina Soden is a contemporary artist and photographer, whose work documents a reverie of architectural decay. Using the medium of the camera, Soden chart’s the slow and entropic passage of time, favouring a lyrical composition that breathes life back into the haunted spaces that time forgot. ’Castle Piano’ depicts an antique grand piano within a room of once-upon-a-time decadence: ornately panelled walls, finished with neo-classical detailing; a white upholstered chair in Rococo style; floating, floral patterned curtains. Yet all is not as it was: with spectral smoke filling the space, we see that both piano and chair have been ravished by time. Rubble and masonry have long-since smashed its ivory keys, silencing memories of melody. Soden breathes life into inanimate objects but, more than that, she breathes life into the very space, igniting it with the ghostly trace of now-absent figures. Profoundly beautiful, Soden’s haunting print speaks to our very human fascination with time, its passing, and all things ephemeral."

Once, the blue walls and herringbone floor were a backdrop to lively encounters; now the peeling paint and dust-covered ground house only ghosts and forgotten memories of times long past. Though empty, Soden breathes life into the space, igniting it with the trace of now-absent figures. "Waldo By Newton Blades"
"Newton Blades is a contemporary artist, known for his ‘borrowed’ and ‘reimagined’ artworks. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Blades’ aesthetic is wide and varied, encompassing the old and the new through innovative interactions with found art. ‘Waldo’ depicts a Samuel Lovett Waldo portrait, distorted almost beyond recognition. A man poses at the centre, richly attired in black, high-collared jacket and ruffled, white shirt, and set against a deep red drape. Blades has worked into the nineteenth century painting, blurring and transposing sections to create a fragmented totality. The result is haunting, the original image remaining only as a spectral trace, abstracted to unsettling but beautiful effect."

Suffused with humour and high visual impact, Jeffrey’s work crosses the line from graphic design to fine art: these are pieces that demand to be looked at, with their bold colour palettes, striking compositions, and satirical subject matter. ’Cocktail Girls (Large Green)’ depicts two synchronised swimmers, their arms flexed in a showgirl ‘V’, the rest of their bodies submerged in the contents of a retro martini glass. Set against a bold, graphic background - a flat, block of post turquoise with a creamy-coloured triangle at its centre, down facing for an abstract counterpoint to the main attraction - the greyscale image is brought to life in this effortless harmony of colour, composition, and character."

"Spraying in the Rain - Handfinished By Dirty Hans"
"Contemporary artist Dirty Hans cites Toulouse-Lautrec and Lichtenstein amongst his greatest influences: an unlikely pairing of art greats, the result is Dirty Hans’ own unique and striking aesthetic, by turns gritty and poppy, in artful measures. His work riffs off 1950s pop culture, from music to movies to magazines, updating Pop Art styles with an innovative combination of acrylic and spray-paint on canvas, merged with digital techniques. ‘Spraying in the Rain’ depicts the iconic moment from cult 1950s film Singin’ in the Rain, as Gene Kelly swings joyously around a street lamp on a rain-soaked night. But this is no straight film still: Dirty Hans has covered the walls with loud street art and placed a spray can in Kelly’s hand, which has produced a dazzling rainbow arc of paint. Bright, bold and brilliantly conceived, ‘Spraying in the Rain’ is a classic in the making."

Using a palette of raspberry, steel-blue and soft-peach, Mernagh creates rich contrasts and tonal harmony. Like an energetic Pollock painting, the image is awash with messy paint flecks, which merge to emphasise the compelling magnetism of Mernagh’s subject. A striking exercise in street-meets-canvas, ‘Blondie’ turns icon into iconography, with unparalleled success."
