BACKGROUND Epistaxis is a common medical emergency with possible life-threatening complications. In the prehospital setting, epistaxis can be treated with nasal tampons. HemCon® Nasal Plug is a nasal tampon impregnated with oxidized cellulose, which has hemostatic properties. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness and usability of HemCon Nasal Plugs in the treatment of anterior epistaxis in the prehospital setting. Methods: From June 2012 to December 2014, all ambulances of two emergency medical services in the Netherlands were equipped with HemCon Nasal Plugs. The plug was used according to protocol; if conventional treatment failed to control severe epistaxis or if conventional treatment was unlikely to achieve hemostasis. The ambulance personnel filled in an evaluation form after each use. RESULTS A total of 33 patients were treated with HemCon Nasal Plugs. Twenty-four patients were taking anticoagulants or suffered from a clotting disorder. The cause of epistaxis was idiopathic in the majority of the patients. Inserting HemCon Nasal Plugs resulted in cessation of epistaxis in 25/33 patients and resulted in reduction of epistaxis in 4/33 patients. HemCon Nasal Plugs failed to control epistaxis in 4/33 patients, possible due to an unreachable site of bleeding. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that HemCon Nasal Plug is an effective adjunct in the prehospital treatment of uncontrolled anterior epistaxis. Your Push med elbow brace features continuously adjustable extension restriction for the elbow joint. This prevents overstretching. The required degree of restriction can be set easily with one hand. Two stiffeners provide support and direction to the flexion and extension movements.
So-called comfort zones of padded material have been created around vulnerable areas of the elbow. A proper anatomic fit and the material and the silicone application contribute to the brace remaining in place during movement.
The brace is made of Sympress(tm), a high-quality comfortable material. The use of microfibres makes the inside feel soft and keeps the skin dry. The Push med elbow brace can be washed normally.
There are no known disorders where the brace cannot or should not be worn. In the case of poor blood circulation in the limbs, a brace may cause hyperaemia. Avoid applying the brace too tightly in the beginning.

DETERMINING SIZE / FITTING
The elbow brace is available in 5 sizes. Bend the elbow at an angle of 90° in relation to the upper arm. Measure the circumference of the elbow, as shown in the illustration on the packaging. The table on the packaging shows the correct brace size for your elbow. Hold the inside of your hand towards you while your elbow is bent slightly.
Use the stiffener ends to slip the brace on your arm
Alternate between the left and right stiffener ends, to ensure that the brace fits symmetrically on the arm.
The brace is properly located when you feel the protruding part of the elbow in the opening.
Lift your arm to expose the zip and close the zip.
Close the non-elastic band at the back of the upper arm.
Use the non-elastic bands to set the required stretching restriction. The stretching movement of the elbow is restricted more as the Velcro is attached further towards the hand.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS; Before washing, close the Velcro to protect the brace and other laundry.
The brace can be washed at temperatures up to 30°C, on a delicate fabrics cycle or by hand. Do not use any bleaching agents.
A gentle spin-dry cycle can be used: after this, hang the brace up to dry in the open air (not near a heating source or in a tumble drier). To extend the brace’s service life, it should be dried after use, if necessary, before being stored.

Your Push med elbow brace features continuously adjustable extension restriction for the elbow joint. This prevents overstretching. The required degree of restriction can be set easily with one hand. Two stiffeners provide support and direction to the flexion and extension movements.
So-called comfort zones of padded material have been created around vulnerable areas of the elbow. A proper anatomic fit and the material and the silicone application contribute to the brace remaining in place during movement.
The brace is made of Sympress(tm), a high-quality comfortable material. The use of microfibres makes the inside feel soft and keeps the skin dry. The Push med elbow brace can be washed normally.
There are no known disorders where the brace cannot or should not be worn. In the case of poor blood circulation in the limbs, a brace may cause hyperaemia. Avoid applying the brace too tightly in the beginning.
Pain is always a sign of warning. If the pain persists or the complaint deteriorates, it is advisable to consult your doctor or therapist.

DETERMINING SIZE / FITTING
The elbow brace is available in 5 sizes. Bend the elbow at an angle of 90° in relation to the upper arm. Measure the circumference of the elbow, as shown in the illustration on the packaging. The table on the packaging shows the correct brace size for your elbow. Hold the inside of your hand towards you while your elbow is bent slightly.
