"Flash Photography for Beginners"
"This course is perfect for a DigitalSLR photographer wanting to master the basics of flash photography. You'll find I teach in a clear, simple way with hopefully no jargon so you really don't need any experience with lights or even own one, I have all the links to the equipment you need over on my website (link below) and it won't cost you more than 100 for the whole off-camera setup.Do you need to be a competent photographer? No not really. I will be showing you how to use your light in a manual mode so as long as you know on YOUR camera how to turn it to 'M' and adjust the aperture and shutter speed setting you'll be fine. In fact if you are stuck I'll help you with that too. What are the requirements?None well, except an SLR camera!Who is this course for?All my training is aimed at amateur photographers rather than professionals. If you're frustrated that you can't :take photos in the eveningstake photos indoorstake photos at partiesthen this is for you.Who is this course NOT for? This isn't a course for professionals or experienced lighting users hoping to better their skills. All you are going to find here is the settings you need for basic but well, evenly lit photographs when your camera can't cope. What am I going to get from this course?6 videos (50 mins) of quality training. Nothing ground breaking but exactly what you need to get you started using your flash both on and off your camera.Assuming this training is well received I plan to do a more advanced course later in the year and that will be the course where we go outside, use multiple lights etc.I hope that's enough to convince you and I look forward to seeing you in the training course!"

It is me showing you how to change settings and find features you didn't know about. You can see an example below which will show you the style of recording. Feel free to download a beginners guide to photography and run this along side it so when they tell you to use 'Aperture Priority' this video shows you how. When they suggest shooting a continuous burst of photos, I explain how. What I do cover is some great and practical advice on the settings you should use and I'll do all I can to get you off full auto! I do mention my other training course FOCUSING several times as it sits very much along side this one. Focusing correctly is essential and that's why I've created a full course to just that. "Deep Learning Prerequisites: Linear Regression in Python"
"This course teaches you about one popular technique used in machine learning, data science and statistics: linear regression. We cover the theory from the ground up: derivation of the solution, and applications to real-world problems. We show you how one might code their own linear regression module in Python.Linear regression is the simplest machine learning model you can learn, yet there is so much depth that you'll be returning to it for years to come. That's why it's a great introductory course if you're interested in taking your first steps in the fields of:deep learningmachine learningdata sciencestatisticsIn the first section, I will show you how to use 1-D linear regression to prove that Moore's Law is true. What's that you say? Moore's Law is not linear? You are correct! I will show you how linear regression can still be applied. In the next section, we will extend 1-D linear regression to any-dimensional linear regression - in other words, how to create a machine learning model that can learn from multiple inputs. We will apply multi-dimensional linear regression to predicting a patient's systolic blood pressure given their age and weight. Finally, we will discuss some practical machine learning issues that you want to be mindful of when you perform data analysis, such as generalization, overfitting, train-test splits, and so on.This course does not require any external materials. Everything needed (Python, and some Python libraries) can be obtained for FREE.If you are a programmer and you want to enhance your coding abilities by learning about data science, then this course is for you. If you have a technical or mathematical background, and you want to know how to apply your skills as a software engineer or ""hacker"", this course may be useful. This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". Anyone can learn to use an API in 15 minutes after reading some documentation. It's not about ""remembering facts"", it's about ""seeing for yourself"" via experimentation. It will teach you how to visualize what's happening in the model internally. If you want more than just a superficial look at machine learning models, this course is for you.Suggested Prerequisites:calculus (taking derivatives)matrix arithmeticprobabilityPython coding: if/else, loops, lists, dicts, setsNumpy coding: matrix and vector operations, loading a CSV fileTIPS (for getting through the course):Watch it at 2x.Take handwritten notes. "Data Science: Deep Learning in Python"
"This course will get you started in building your FIRST artificial neural network using deep learning techniques. Following my previous course on logistic regression, we take this basic building block, and build full-on non-linear neural networks right out of the gate using Python and Numpy. All the materials for this course are FREE.We extend the previous binary classification model to multiple classes using the softmax function, and we derive the very important training method called ""backpropagation"" using first principles. I show you how to code backpropagation in Numpy, first ""the slow way"", and then ""the fast way"" using Numpy features.Next, we implement a neural network using Google's new TensorFlow library. You should take this course if you are interested in starting your journey toward becoming a master at deep learning, or if you are interested in machine learning and data science in general. We go beyond basic models like logistic regression and linear regression and I show you something that automatically learns features. This course provides you with many practical examples so that you can really see how deep learning can be used on anything. Throughout the course, we'll do a course project, which will show you how to predict user actions on a website given user data like whether or not that user is on a mobile device, the number of products they viewed, how long they stayed on your site, whether or not they are a returning visitor, and what time of day they visited.Another project at the end of the course shows you how you can use deep learning for facial expression recognition. Imagine being able to predict someone's emotions just based on a picture! After getting your feet wet with the fundamentals, I provide a brief overview of some of the newest developments in neural networks - slightly modified architectures and what they are used for.NOTE:If you already know about softmax and backpropagation, and you want to skip over the theory and speed things up using more advanced techniques along with GPU-optimization, check out my follow-up course on this topic, Data Science: Practical Deep Learning Concepts in Theano and TensorFlow.I have other courses that cover more advanced topics, such as Convolutional Neural Networks, Restricted Boltzmann Machines, Autoencoders, and more! "Data Science: Natural Language Processing (NLP) in Python"
"In this course you will build MULTIPLE practical systems using natural language processing, or NLP - the branch of machine learning and data science that deals with text and speech. This course is not part of my deep learning series, so it doesn't contain any hard math - just straight up coding in Python. All the materials for this course are FREE.After a brief discussion about what NLP is and what it can do, we will begin building very useful stuff. The first thing we'll build is a cipher decryption algorithm. These have applications in warfare and espionage. We will learn how to build and apply several useful NLP tools in this section, namely, character-level language models (using the Markov principle), and genetic algorithms. The second project, where we begin to use more traditional ""machine learning"", is to build a spam detector. You likely get very little spam these days, compared to say, the early 2000s, because of systems like these.Next we'll build a model for sentiment analysis in Python. This is something that allows us to assign a score to a block of text that tells us how positive or negative it is. People have used sentiment analysis on Twitter to predict the stock market. We'll go over some practical tools and techniques like the NLTK (natural language toolkit) library and latent semantic analysis or LSA.Finally, we end the course by building an article spinner. This is a very hard problem and even the most popular products out there these days don't get it right. These lectures are designed to just get you started and to give you ideas for how you might improve on them yourself. Once mastered, you can use it as an SEO, or search engine optimization tool. Internet marketers everywhere will love you if you can do this for them! This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". Anyone can learn to use an API in 15 minutes after reading some documentation. It's not about ""remembering facts"", it's about ""seeing for yourself"" via experimentation. "Modern Deep Learning in Python"
"This course continues where my first course, Deep Learning in Python, left off. You already know how to build an artificial neural network in Python, and you have a plug-and-play script that you can use for TensorFlow. Neural networks are one of the staples of machine learning, and they are always a top contender in Kaggle contests. If you want to improve your skills with neural networks and deep learning, this is the course for you.You already learned about backpropagation, but there were a lot of unanswered questions. How can you modify it to improve training speed? In this course you will learn about batch and stochastic gradient descent, two commonly used techniques that allow you to train on just a small sample of the data at each iteration, greatly speeding up training time. You will also learn about momentum, which can be helpful for carrying you through local minima and prevent you from having to be too conservative with your learning rate. You will also learn about adaptive learning rate techniques like AdaGrad, RMSprop, and Adam which can also help speed up your training.Because you already know about the fundamentals of neural networks, we are going to talk about more modern techniques, like dropout regularization and batch normalization, which we will implement in both TensorFlow and Theano. The course is constantly being updated and more advanced regularization techniques are coming in the near future. In my last course, I just wanted to give you a little sneak peak at TensorFlow. In this course we are going to start from the basics so you understand exactly what's going on - what are TensorFlow variables and expressions and how can you use these building blocks to create a neural network? We are also going to look at a library that's been around much longer and is very popular for deep learning - Theano. With this library we will also examine the basic building blocks - variables, expressions, and functions - so that you can build neural networks in Theano with confidence.Theano was the predecessor to all modern deep learning libraries today. Today, we have almost TOO MANY options. Keras, PyTorch, CNTK (Microsoft), MXNet (Amazon / Apache), etc. In this course, we cover all of these! Pick and choose the one you love best.Because one of the main advantages of TensorFlow and Theano is the ability to use the GPU to speed up training, I will show you how to set up a GPU-instance on AWS and compare the speed of CPU vs GPU for training a deep neural network. With all this extra speed, we are going to look at a real dataset - the famous MNIST dataset (images of handwritten digits) and compare against various benchmarks. This is THE dataset researchers look at first when they want to ask the question, ""does this thing work?""These images are important part of deep learning history and are still used for testing today. Every deep learning expert should know them well. If you want more than just a superficial look at machine learning models, this course is for you.Suggested Prerequisites:Know about gradient descentProbability and statisticsPython coding: if/else, loops, lists, dicts, setsNumpy coding: matrix and vector operations, loading a CSV fileKnow how to write a neural network with NumpyTIPS (for getting through the course):Watch it at 2x.Take handwritten notes. "Data Analytics: SQL for newbs, beginners and marketers"
"It is becoming ever more important that companies make data-driven decisions. With big data and data science on the rise, we have more data than we know what to do with. One of the basic languages of data analytics is SQL, which is used for many popular databases including MySQL, Postgres, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and even big data solutions like Hive and Cassandra.Im going to let you in on a little secret. Most high-level marketers and product managers at big tech companies know how to manipulate data to gain important insights. No longer do you have to wait around the entire day for some software engineer to answer your questions - now you can find the answers directly, by yourself, using SQL!In this course, SQL for marketers, we'll start from the basics - installing SQL onto your Mac, Linux, or Windows machine and explaining what a relational database is. Next, we'll look at basic tasks like creating tables and loading data into those tables. We will look at a wide variety of SQL commands and I will show you how to speed things up using indexes.Once you know all the SQL commands we will start doing advanced examples - answering questions marketers and business people often have, like where are customers dropping off in our sales funnel? And which of our locations has the highest revenue? In the last section, we'll do Advanced SQL queries on Spark, the big data framework that is the successor to MapReduce and also runs on top of Hadoop. I will teach you how to install Spark, create a cluster very quickly on Amazon EC2, and run SQL queries, allowing you to apply everything you learned up until this point in a big data environment.Do you want to know how to optimize your sales funnel using SQL, look at the seasonal trends in your industry, and run a SQL query on Hadoop? Then join me now in my new class, SQL for marketers! Dominate data analytics, data science, and big data!TIPS (for getting through the course):Watch it at 2x.Take handwritten notes. This will drastically increase your ability to retain the information.Ask lots of questions on the discussion board. "Deep Learning: Convolutional Neural Networks in Python"
"This is the 3rd part in my Data Science and Machine Learning series on Deep Learning in Python. At this point, you already know a lot about neural networks and deep learning, including not just the basics like backpropagation, but how to improve it using modern techniques like momentum and adaptive learning rates. You've already written deep neural networks in Theano and TensorFlow, and you know how to run code using the GPU.This course is all about how to use deep learning for computer vision using convolutional neural networks. These are the state of the art when it comes to image classification and they beat vanilla deep networks at tasks like MNIST.In this course we are going to up the ante and look at the StreetView House Number (SVHN) dataset - which uses larger color images at various angles - so things are going to get tougher both computationally and in terms of the difficulty of the classification task. But we will show that convolutional neural networks, or CNNs, are capable of handling the challenge!Because convolution is such a central part of this type of neural network, we are going to go in-depth on this topic. It has more applications than you might imagine, such as modeling artificial organs like the pancreas and the heart. I'm going to show you how to build convolutional filters that can be applied to audio, like the echo effect, and I'm going to show you how to build filters for image effects, like the Gaussian blur and edge detection. We will also do some biology and talk about how convolutional neural networks have been inspired by the animal visual cortex. After describing the architecture of a convolutional neural network, we will jump straight into code, and I will show you how to extend the deep neural networks we built last time (in part 2) with just a few new functions to turn them into CNNs. We will then test their performance and show how convolutional neural networks written in both Theano and TensorFlow can outperform the accuracy of a plain neural network on the StreetView House Number dataset. All the materials for this course are FREE. You can download and install Python, Numpy, Scipy, Theano, and TensorFlow with simple commands shown in previous courses. This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". "Cluster Analysis and Unsupervised Machine Learning in Python"
"Cluster analysis is a staple of unsupervised machine learning and data science. It is very useful for data mining and big data because it automatically finds patterns in the data, without the need for labels, unlike supervised machine learning. In a real-world environment, you can imagine that a robot or an artificial intelligence wont always have access to the optimal answer, or maybe there isnt an optimal correct answer. Youd want that robot to be able to explore the world on its own, and learn things just by looking for patterns.Do you ever wonder how we get the data that we use in our supervised machine learning algorithms? We always seem to have a nice CSV or a table, complete with Xs and corresponding Ys.If you havent been involved in acquiring data yourself, you might not have thought about this, but someone has to make this data! Those Ys have to come from somewhere, and a lot of the time that involves manual labor.Sometimes, you dont have access to this kind of information or it is infeasible or costly to acquire. But you still want to have some idea of the structure of the data. If you're doing data analytics automating pattern recognition in your data would be invaluable. This is where unsupervised machine learning comes into play.In this course we are first going to talk about clustering. This is where instead of training on labels, we try to create our own labels! Well do this by grouping together data that looks alike. There are 2 methods of clustering well talk about: k-means clustering and hierarchical clustering.Next, because in machine learning we like to talk about probability distributions, well go into Gaussian mixture models and kernel density estimation, where we talk about how to ""learn"" the probability distribution of a set of data. One interesting fact is that under certain conditions, Gaussian mixture models and k-means clustering are exactly the same! Well prove how this is the case. All the algorithms well talk about in this course are staples in machine learning and data science, so if you want to know how to automatically find patterns in your data with data mining and pattern extraction, without needing someone to put in manual work to label that data, then this course is for you.All the materials for this course are FREE. You can download and install Python, Numpy, and Scipy with simple commands on Windows, Linux, or Mac.This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". "Unsupervised Deep Learning in Python"
"This course is the next logical step in my deep learning, data science, and machine learning series. Ive done a lot of courses about deep learning, and I just released a course about unsupervised learning, where I talked about clustering and density estimation. So what do you get when you put these 2 together? Unsupervised deep learning! In these course well start with some very basic stuff - principal components analysis (PCA), and a popular nonlinear dimensionality reduction technique known as t-SNE (t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding).Next, well look at a special type of unsupervised neural network called the autoencoder. After describing how an autoencoder works, Ill show you how you can link a bunch of them together to form a deep stack of autoencoders, that leads to better performance of a supervised deep neural network. Autoencoders are like a non-linear form of PCA.Last, well look at restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs). These are yet another popular unsupervised neural network, that you can use in the same way as autoencoders to pretrain your supervised deep neural network. Ill show you an interesting way of training restricted Boltzmann machines, known as Gibbs sampling, a special case of Markov Chain Monte Carlo, and Ill demonstrate how even though this method is only a rough approximation, it still ends up reducing other cost functions, such as the one used for autoencoders. This method is also known as Contrastive Divergence or CD-k. As in physical systems, we define a concept called free energy and attempt to minimize this quantity. Finally, well bring all these concepts together and Ill show you visually what happens when you use PCA and t-SNE on the features that the autoencoders and RBMs have learned, and well see that even without labels the results suggest that a pattern has been found. All the materials used in this course are FREE. Since this course is the 4th in the deep learning series, I will assume you already know calculus, linear algebra, and Python coding. You'll want to install Numpy, Theano, and Tensorflow for this course. These are essential items in your data analytics toolbox. If you are interested in deep learning and you want to learn about modern deep learning developments beyond just plain backpropagation, including using unsupervised neural networks to interpret what features can be automatically and hierarchically learned in a deep learning system, this course is for you. This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". "Unsupervised Machine Learning Hidden Markov Models in Python"
"The Hidden Markov Model or HMM is all about learning sequences.A lot of the data that would be very useful for us to model is in sequences. Stock prices are sequences of prices. Language is a sequence of words. Credit scoring involves sequences of borrowing and repaying money, and we can use those sequences to predict whether or not youre going to default. In short, sequences are everywhere, and being able to analyze them is an important skill in your data science toolbox. The easiest way to appreciate the kind of information you get from a sequence is to consider what you are reading right now. If I had written the previous sentence backwards, it wouldnt make much sense to you, even though it contained all the same words. So order is important. While the current fad in deep learning is to use recurrent neural networks to model sequences, I want to first introduce you guys to a machine learning algorithm that has been around for several decades now - the Hidden Markov Model. This course follows directly from my first course in Unsupervised Machine Learning for Cluster Analysis, where you learned how to measure the probability distribution of a random variable. In this course, youll learn to measure the probability distribution of a sequence of random variables. You guys know how much I love deep learning, so there is a little twist in this course. Weve already covered gradient descent and you know how central it is for solving deep learning problems. I claimed that gradient descent could be used to optimize any objective function. In this course I will show you how you can use gradient descent to solve for the optimal parameters of an HMM, as an alternative to the popular expectation-maximization algorithm. Were going to do it in Theano and Tensorflow, which are popular libraries for deep learning. This is also going to teach you how to work with sequences in Theano and Tensorflow, which will be very useful when we cover recurrent neural networks and LSTMs.This course is also going to go through the many practical applications of Markov models and hidden Markov models. Were going to look at a model of sickness and health, and calculate how to predict how long youll stay sick, if you get sick. Were going to talk about how Markov models can be used to analyze how people interact with your website, and fix problem areas like high bounce rate, which could be affecting your SEO. Well build language models that can be used to identify a writer and even generate text - imagine a machine doing your writing for you. HMMs have been very successful in natural language processing or NLP.Well look at what is possibly the most recent and prolific application of Markov models - Googles PageRank algorithm. And finally well discuss even more practical applications of Markov models, including generating images, smartphone autosuggestions, and using HMMs to answer one of the most fundamental questions in biology - how is DNA, the code of life, translated into physical or behavioral attributes of an organism? All of the materials of this course can be downloaded and installed for FREE. We will do most of our work in Numpy and Matplotlib, along with a little bit of Theano. I am always available to answer your questions and help you along your data science journey. This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". "Deep Learning: Recurrent Neural Networks in Python"
"Like the course I just released on Hidden Markov Models, Recurrent Neural Networks are all about learning sequences - but whereas Markov Models are limited by the Markov assumption, Recurrent Neural Networks are not - and as a result, they are more expressive, and more powerful than anything weve seen on tasks that we havent made progress on in decades. So whats going to be in this course and how will it build on the previous neural network courses and Hidden Markov Models? In the first section of the course we are going to add the concept of time to our neural networks.Ill introduce you to the Simple Recurrent Unit, also known as the Elman unit.We are going to revisit the XOR problem, but were going to extend it so that it becomes the parity problem - youll see that regular feedforward neural networks will have trouble solving this problem but recurrent networks will work because the key is to treat the input as a sequence. In the next section of the course, we are going to revisit one of the most popular applications of recurrent neural networks - language modeling. You saw when we studied Markov Models that we could do things like generate poetry and it didnt look too bad. We could even discriminate between 2 different poets just from the sequence of parts-of-speech tags they used.In this course, we are going to extend our language model so that it no longer makes the Markov assumption.Another popular application of neural networks for language is word vectors or word embeddings. The most common technique for this is called Word2Vec, but Ill show you how recurrent neural networks can also be used for creating word vectors. In the section after, well look at the very popular LSTM, or long short-term memory unit, and the more modern and efficient GRU, or gated recurrent unit, which has been proven to yield comparable performance.Well apply these to some more practical problems, such as learning a language model from Wikipedia data and visualizing the word embeddings we get as a result. All of the materials required for this course can be downloaded and installed for FREE. We will do most of our work in Numpy, Matplotlib, and Theano. I am always available to answer your questions and help you along your data science journey. This course focuses on ""how to build and understand"", not just ""how to use"". "Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning in Python"
"In this course we are going to look at advanced NLP.Previously, you learned about some of the basics, like how many NLP problems are just regular machine learning and data science problems in disguise, and simple, practical methods like bag-of-words and term-document matrices. These allowed us to do some pretty cool things, like detect spam emails, write poetry, spin articles, and group together similar words. In this course Im going to show you how to do even more awesome things. Well learn not just 1, but 4 new architectures in this course.First up is word2vec.In this course, Im going to show you exactly how word2vec works, from theory to implementation, and youll see that its merely the application of skills you already know.Word2vec is interesting because it magically maps words to a vector space where you can find analogies, like:king - man = queen - womanFrance - Paris = England - LondonDecember - Novemeber = July - JuneWe are also going to look at the GloVe method, which also finds word vectors, but uses a technique called matrix factorization, which is a popular algorithm for recommender systems.Amazingly, the word vectors produced by GLoVe are just as good as the ones produced by word2vec, and its way easier to train. We will also look at some classical NLP problems, like parts-of-speech tagging and named entity recognition, and use recurrent neural networks to solve them. Youll see that just about any problem can be solved using neural networks, but youll also learn the dangers of having too much complexity.Lastly, youll learn about recursive neural networks, which finally help us solve the problem of negation in sentiment analysis. Recursive neural networks exploit the fact that sentences have a tree structure, and we can finally get away from naively using bag-of-words.All of the materials required for this course can be downloaded and installed for FREE. "Data Science: Supervised Machine Learning in Python"
"In recent years, we've seen a resurgence in AI, or artificial intelligence, and machine learning.Machine learning has led to some amazing results, like being able to analyze medical images and predict diseases on-par with human experts.Google's AlphaGo program was able to beat a world champion in the strategy game go using deep reinforcement learning.Machine learning is even being used to program self driving cars, which is going to change the automotive industry forever. Imagine a world with drastically reduced car accidents, simply by removing the element of human error.Google famously announced that they are now ""machine learning first"", meaning that machine learning is going to get a lot more attention now, and this is what's going to drive innovation in the coming years. It's embedded into all sorts of different products.Machine learning is used in many industries, like finance, online advertising, medicine, and robotics. It is a widely applicable tool that will benefit you no matter what industry you're in, and it will also open up a ton of career opportunities once you get good.Machine learning also raises some philosophical questions. Are we building a machine that can think? What does it mean to be conscious? Will computers one day take over the world? In this course, we are first going to discuss the K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm. Its extremely simple and intuitive, and its a great first classification algorithm to learn. After we discuss the concepts and implement it in code, well look at some ways in which KNN can fail. Its important to know both the advantages and disadvantages of each algorithm we look at.Next well look at the Naive Bayes Classifier and the General Bayes Classifier. This is a very interesting algorithm to look at because it is grounded in probability.Well see how we can transform the Bayes Classifier into a linear and quadratic classifier to speed up our calculations.Next well look at the famous Decision Tree algorithm. This is the most complex of the algorithms well study, and most courses youll look at wont implement them. We will, since I believe implementation is good practice. The last algorithm well look at is the Perceptron algorithm. Perceptrons are the ancestor of neural networks and deep learning, so they are important to study in the context of machine learning. One weve studied these algorithms, well move to more practical machine learning topics. Hyperparameters, cross-validation, feature extraction, feature selection, and multiclass classification.Well do a comparison with deep learning so you understand the pros and cons of each approach.Well discuss the Sci-Kit Learn library, because even though implementing your own algorithms is fun and educational, you should use optimized and well-tested code in your actual work.Well cap things off with a very practical, real-world example by writing a web service that runs a machine learning model and makes predictions. This is something that real companies do and make money from. All the materials for this course are FREE. Lectures consist of a combination of video instruction, downloadable writing prompts to help you develop the key content pieces for your website, and screen cast lectures to assist you step by step in building your website. At the completion of the course you are encouraged to join our Facebook Alumni group for feedback on your website and networking with other business owners in a supportive forum."
