This leaves the untethered thinking mind free to indulge in overthink.Overthink leads swiftly to self-absorption, self-absorption to self-obsession, self-obsession to disassociation, and disassociation to alienation.Closing down it presses in on itself it compresses or depresses itself.If we were in touch with the natural cycles, if we were engaged in real and essential labor rather than screen-based activity, if we were expressing ourselves authentically, there wouldnt be this epidemic.People would get fed up, theyd get glum, their moods would swing between high and low, and theyd take that in their stride without assuming they had a disease. And the drug companies wouldnt have the trillions of dollars of annual revenues from selling drugs we dont actually need.Drugs are a temporary fixI have immense respect for the medical profession. Wed be in a proper pickle without one. Likewise the people who produce the medicines we need. However that doesnt mean I condone everything they do or omit to do. And I have never viewed holistic medicine as an alternative, but as a complement. As a rule of thumb, conventional medicine fixes you so you can carry on in the game, while holistic medicine heals you. The two are necessary companions, especially in acute situations, where the patent has no time to spend on the healing process and needs fixing fast.So if you must, take pills as an expedient. But rather than rely on them as a cure, see them as a temporary fix. Not that I would care but it would be doing you and potentially everyone a disservice were it not made clear that what I have to share can truly help you.Between ages 14-17 with hormones in flux and raging hard, and being no stranger to the inner world, Id been training in aikido, meditation and healing for 3 years before the full hurdy-gurdy of puberty was upon me Id even taken my first acid trip before I was 14. Yet even this nascent armory was no match for the hormones and Id regularly succumb to bouts of intense depression, so deep Id touch the very foundations of the primordial swirl of existence, mind tainted with such dread, it was all I could do to function day-to-day. These were followed by bouts of such exhilaration and excitement it was impossible to keep any semblance of feet on the ground as I soared to the heights of existence and gaze into the face of God (Tao who doesnt really have a face, save the ones we ascribe it obviously).Once the cyclic nature of these alternating bouts became evident I also noticed around halfway through the up-phase Id start succumbing to increasing anxiety about the inevitable next down-phase.Fortunately for me, back in those antediluvian days people around still had the common sense to tell me, dont worry, its your hormones, its normal, itll pass, youll get through it youve just got to keep going.These days Id have been taken to a doctor, been diagnosed bipolar, clinically depressed and/or even manically depressed, and be prescribed anti-depressives, which would have attenuated the intensity of the existential crisis I was going through enough to make me not bother doing the actual work I so needed to do to correct the condition.And had that been the case none of this fine work Im proud to say has helped well over the million-plus people Ive done one-to-one sessions with, not to mention the incalculable millions whove benefited online and via all the books and retreats and workshops and talks, and TV programs and radio shows and all the rest none of it would have happened and wed not be here now discussing the potential for attaining to the state of unfettered personal magnificence were each here in this lifetime to embody and enjoy.Towards the end of the hormonally driven bipolar phase I was in, Id finally acknowledged and acquiesced to the fact Id grow by a quantum leap through each bout of down, so that rather than resist the down, I might as well welcome it, enjoy it even. Enlightened perspective can only be gained by thinking from the back-brain. Moreover emotional clarity can only be attained by sitting in the back, rather than in the front of your body.Well be looking at how to internally reposition yourself so youre observing from behind and youre able to accommodate any amount of inner or outer turbulence without being upended.IntentionThe power of intention is paramount. It developed in Northern China records only go back a few hundred years but the underlying technique is likely to be a few thousand years old.Xing Yi Chuan (its full name) means literally highly focused intention boxing meaning you vanquish your opponent by intending to and moving your body correspondingly.Chuan translates as fistHsing means to form somethingI, specifically in the word hsing-i, refers to the ability of the mind to create an idea and project it into the body, creating a functional physical formThere are five corresponding forms/fists each linked to the five elements:Pi Chuan chopping/cutting fist,associated with the metal elementBeng Chuan crushing fist, associated with the wood elementTsuan/Zuan Chuan drilling fist, associated with the water elementPao Chuan pounding fist, associated with the fire element, andHeng Chuan crossing fist, associated with the earth elementI teach you those forms in this training. You can use them alone as part of your regular practice or once youre au fait with them, choose to proceed to the twelve animal forms to provide you a particular flare or style for when dealing with tricky situations that require a bit of extra magic and finally the Xing Yi long form which combines the five elements and twelve animals and takes each far further in terms of expression and range of movement.Who will benefit from Barefoot Doctors Xing Yi 5 Elements Form?Anyone, unless you have a physical impairment which means youre unable to stand or move easily. The beauty of this training is you dont need to have done any other martial arts, you dont need to be fit even you merely need to get started and it will get you fit and able to defend yourself without you having to do anything more than the daily training.If youve ever studied martial arts with other teachers what youll find strikingly different here and may have to make accommodation for is the high degree of fun involved. Im not suggesting having fun learning something is the most efficient way for everyone to learn but its the only way I know how and over the years Ive found it to be effective for most people.In terms of how it fits with all the other Barefoot Doctor trainings, whether the internal mastery you learn in School For Warriors, Qigongo, Pa Kua, Tai Chi they all depend on the same set of internal principles and being abreast of those via the other trainings, as well as having developed the physical dexterity acquired in all the Qigongo trainings, youll find Xing Yi like coming home.Myself I practice qigong and all the martial arts forms every day and would most strongly advise that, however if time is a constraint, or youre not willing to alter your schedule to accommodate it, you can always simply do qigong every day as the basis, then one day do the Xing Yi, the next the Pa Kua, the next Tai Chi and so on.What does the Xing Yi 5 Elements Form Training comprise?The training is online via a series of short, easy to watch, fun to follow videos.
