| Cask Breather (Auto Ventilator) |
| Cask Breather (Auto Vent) This is the ?'Harry Mason' Cask Breather. Sometimes known as a Race Ventilator or Auto vent. This is an automated version of the hard and soft peg or spile. ?When installed correctly this can add days on to the life span of your ale. The Cask Breather can be used on either vertical dispense systems and in the traditional lay down method. The Cask Breather is made from a high impact resistant food grade material. It extends the life of your beer. ?This is due to the Non Return Valve (duck bill) which controls the air entering the cask. ?Only?natural air is allowed to enter the cask. ?When the beer is dispensed either at the cask tap or at the bar, the vacuum within the cask forces the valve to open. Installation & Cleaning To correctly install, simply create a hole in the shive with either a Venting Punch Hand Held??or a Barrel Vent Peg. The Cask Breather is designed to come apart for cleaning, simply unscrew the cap and remove the silicon (Duck Bill) Non Return Valve, either put in hot soapy water or a cleaning solution and use a Cleaning Brush. When using the 'lay down' method of dispense there are a large variety of different ways of Venting your Cask. Check out the video to see James demonstrate how to install each one. How to prevent you beer expiring Because the Non Return Valve works by cutting off the continuous flow of air in out of the cask you reduce the amount of oxygen accessing the beer. Oxygen is the reason why beer expires so quickly as it reacts with the yeast. Other reasons beer or ale can expire is light exposure. However this is only relevant to bottled beer as cask ale is contained in a solid aluminium barrel. Temperature is crucial too, having your cellar the correct temperature can help maintain a decent barrel. The recommended temperature to keep your cellar at is 10 degrees celsius. Finally use 'best by dates'. If you can always try and purchase casks with the best possible best by dates.
